Santa Rosa, CA — The Redwood Empire Young Democrats (REYDems) released the below statement celebrating a career of distinguished service to our nation by President Joseph Robinette Biden.

REYDems President Brendan Sweeney said: “President Biden is our nation’s greatest leader since President Franklin Delano Roosevelt, having gotten us through crisis after crisis.” Continuing, “He revived our economy from the depression left to us by Donald Trump, ended the COVID-19 Pandemic, expanded affordable health care to millions of Americans, beat the gun lobby to pass our nation’s first gun safety law in over 30 years, delivered more than $70 billion in student debt relief, and passed the most significant climate change legislation in our world’s history – he’s an American hero.”

REYDems Political Director Riley Ahern said: “In a selfless act of public service, President Biden is putting us on a path to defeat Donald Trump and to defend our democracy. We should all applaud his patriotism.” Continuing, “REYDems looks forward to electing the 47th President of the United States: Kamala Harris.”

Our nation is graced with good leaders like President Biden, who put country above ego and party. We are deeply grateful for his tireless service and for his incredible accomplishments for young people. This November, we must all come together to defeat the greatest threat to young people and our freedoms – MAGA extremists who do not share our democratic or our American values.

Ukiah, CA — The Redwood Empire Young Democrats (REYDems) executive board voted to incorporate its newest subchapter — Mendocino County Young Democrats. This subchapter shall represent the young people living in Mendocino County — the heart of the Redwood Empire with its majestic forests, rugged Lost Coast, vast agricultural lands, and charming towns.

REYDems President Brendan Sweeney said “I am proud of the Young Democrats of Mendocino County. Our community is organizing because young people need a voice in local politics, and local politics needs to include young peoples’ voices to make good policy.” Continuing, “Critical challenges to Mendocino County residents like affordable housing shortages, the climate crisis, and an aging population cannot be fixed without buy-in from young people.” 

Jesse Boyd, newly elected REYDems Vice President for Mendocino County, said “We are excited to establish the Mendocino County Subchapter to help organize Young Democrats in Mendocino County. I look forward to taking action in Mendocino County and to making more and more young people’s voices heard.” 

Creating a space for the Young Democrats to organize in Mendocino County is a critical step to building Young People Power. REYDems encourages any Democrats aged 13-35 living in Mendocino County to apply for membership with our club.

“We are excited to launch our new website, REYDems.org, which will serve as a hub of activism for Young Democrats across the Redwood Empire. Our website will bring together those young people and help build Young People Power” said Brendan Sweeney.

REYDems encourage all registered Democrats aged 14 – 35 and living in Sonoma, Napa, Mendocino, and Lake Counties to read more about our club’s story, to apply for membership, and to plan to attend one of our upcoming events. Check back in regularly at REYDems.org for updates on our events and important press releases.

Santa Rosa, CA — The President of the Redwood Empire Young Democrats released the following statement announcing and celebrating the formation of the Redwood Empire Young Democrats.

“I am pleased to announce an exciting new project to uplift the young people of our community – Redwood Empire Young Democrats (REY Dems). Our new club is dedicated to bringing the young people of California’s North Coast into the Democratic Party – and we’re starting in Sonoma and Napa Counties. Please see below for details on our Sonoma County Launch Party on May 15.

Over the last year, a group of young Democrats from across our region saw and felt a deepening problem: all across America, our peers are losing faith in democracy. It will take all of us to reverse that trend and to defeat Donald Trump (again). We want to be a part of that effort.

And so, our vision is simple: Organize. Organize. Organize.

REY Dems has begun recruiting new members from the ranks of students at our high schools and colleges who are looking for a livable climate and an affordable education; young workers who are starting off their careers and just want a fair shake for their hard work; historically disenfranchised communities who want freedom from old prejudices and structural inequities; and of young families who are struggling to afford a home, healthcare, and other high costs of living.

Our objective is to teach our new members how to effectively participate in politics, connect them with professional opportunities & campaigns, and build generations of leaders to carry the Democratic banner forward.

After our launch, our Sonoma County Chapter will begin to meet monthly, and we will launch our Napa County Chapter soon after.

This November, we’re keeping our republic.”
